Domaine Derain

Like Domaine de Chassorney, this estate has passed from its founder Dominique Derain to his ‘pupils’ Julien Altaber and Carole Schwab - who also make wine under their own label Sextant (see below). Derain was a pioneer of biodynamic farming in St. Aubin. The 5.5ha estate spans a number of appellations.

⚪⚘0️⃣🏆❤️ Bourgogne “la Corvée aux Moines” 2022

The flinty zestiness of this outstanding Chardonnay impressed all three of us. Oak takes a back seat and is barely perceptible - although I got some butter and straw on the nose. It initially made me think of Hunter Valley Semillon, due to the freshness.

“Love the elegance and restraint, but it’s bright, like unpacking your favourite candy” said Jasper.

EU: €34 from Vleck (NL), N/A US or UK
