How Popular is Orange Wine?
I found some alternative metrics that show the rise of the category
My head has been deep in the topic of orange wine trends this week, as I prepare for a string of speaking engagements in Korea, Shanghai and Belgrade and the need to sound halfway intelligent on the subject.
One of the key challenges with the natural wine sector in general, and orange wine as a kind of sub-niche that sits (mostly) within it, is that it’s hard to measure with traditional metrics such as sales.
When there is no consistent definition, and when statistical bodies don’t separate out the category, it’s pretty much impossible to put together global figures on how much is being produced or consumed.
I’m more interested in what you might call orange wine’s mind share - to what extent has this category, this winemaking technique to be precise, penetrated the hearts and minds of wine drinkers, geeks, enthusiasts, growers and critics?
