I’ve long admired Konstantin Baum’s YouTube channel. This German Master of Wine is one of very few people to achieve the seemingly impossible - taking the complex subject of wine and making it not only accessible but also vastly popular. And he’s achieved this with high quality content that is neither click-bait nor in any sense dumbed down.
Konstantin’s channel currently has 188,000 subscribers - significantly more than Wine Folly, James Suckling or The Wine Spectator. Although the numbers are chicken-feed compared to those in the top 100, such as Mr. Beast (over 400 million subscribers) or PewDiePie (over 100 million), they are extraordinary for a niche topic like wine.
I sat down with Konstantin to see if I could discover his secret, and to get his take on all things natural and orange - areas of wine he’s also explored in his videos, but not without the occasional snarky comment.
