A typically impressive Saperavi from the five doctors making some Kakheti’s most typical and precise qvevri wines right now. 2018 is their first vintage for Saperavi, and like all their wines the fruit comes only from their own vineyards.
This is certainly dense, tarry and concentrated, but there’s a fresh, mineral drive and a real sense of balance. The spicy, dark fruit and chunky tannins underpin the wine wonderfully. This is young right now, but drinks just great with a nice steak or other protein-heavy options.
No harm in cellaring it for a few years!
