A very typical Aglianico, but one that stops short of some of the grandeur that it might have on its home turf in Basilicata. There is ripe spicy fruit and prodigious tannins – certainly, this needed its five years of maturation! Some attractive development and animal/musky notes on the nose. Crushed blackcurrants and a smoky, tarry note power the palate. The fruit expression is good, the tannins are just about resolved, but this stops short of exceptional.
