Marufo (aka Mourisco) is a tricky little number, and hardly a popular grape variety in Douro – where traditionally everyone wanted plenty of colour and extraction.

This pale translucent pink wine is lighter than Miguel’s rosé – even though it’s vinifed very much as a red. Seriously peppery on the nose – and the more air it gets, the more grinds of the pepper mill you’ll feel.

Hibiscus and redcurrant fruit, quite soft and ripe, with some earthy notes. Very soft textured and easy going, yet somehow also a bit heavier than expected.

Characterful and charming, but slightly misses the zip that would turn it into Douro glou-glou.

The winemaker is Luis Seabra.

Unfiltered, unfined, low sulphites. (< 50mg/L total)
