The name and branding of this producer (new to me) made it sound a bit corporate, but actually this is a new boutique winery project from seasoned winemaker Ivan Nareklishvili. It’s great to see that he and so many others are now planting and vinifying the once rare Khikhvi. This example is absolutely typical for the variety, dense, chalky and full of papaya or overripe kiwi fruit. A citrus note on the finish really brightens this up, together with a salty mineral hint. A great, traditional qvevri wine, and a great expression of this fine grape variety.
