A little reduced and lacking in expression on the nose, but this turbo-charged Cannonau (Grenache) has amazing fruit purity and drive. It’s hard to get the head around, but this is a wine with 15.5% alcohol that has loads of acidity, salty mineral qualities and also finishes completely dry. Furthermore, the fruit and the body have a suggestion of lightness about them – perhaps due to the use of only stainless steel.
The fruit suggests ripe cranberry and redcurrant – crunchy, fresh and with the merest hint of biscuite. The tannins are fine but grippy, lending a subtle smokiness to the finish.
An exciting wine – if rather dangerous for more than a glass.
