Giuseppe Scirto and Valeria Franco are Vino Scirto. Together they work a precious 650m high plot of almost 100 year old vines that was inherited from Giuseppe’s grandparents. This wine is a homage to his grandfather – Don Pippinu. It’s a super fresh, exciting style of Etna Rosso, with vibrant cranberry fruit and wonderful roasted herb and barbecue notes.
There’s a charming floral, aromatic feeling to the nose, with something very close to rose petals. What’s great about this is the purity of the fruit, with no distractions from oak (fermentation and ageing were done only in stainless steel tanks). It’s young but already super expressive and drinking nicely, with tannins that are lightly crunchy but in no way dominant or oppressive.
An exceptional expression of this tricksy grape variety.
