Tasting the flavours of new oak in a Blaufrankisch isn’t something I particularly like. However, I get what Stefan has tried to achieve here. The wine has a little more body thanks to the oak ageing, whilst still retaining its crunchy, acidic cherry fruit.
The issue is that there are woody tannins on the finish, in addition to the grape variety’s own not inconsiderable phenolics.
