The 2018s from Wachter Wiesler all have a slightly roasted, reductive character which I don’t recall from previous vintages.
This is quite an austere style, with roasted twigs, dried herbs and balsamic tones that are more to the fore than the fruit.
There are also some subtle animalistic notes, that makes me wonder whether some brettanomyces yeasts have stripped the fruit a bit here.
A wine with plenty of interest, but lacking a little hedonism.
