I am ambivalent about super ripe Riesling from Nussberg – to me, it works best as part of the traditional Gemischter Satz blend. Here, the acidity does not really speak and it also has to do battle with a swathe of new oak. And unfortunately, it’s a 1-0 victory for the oak barrels. Notes of vanilla and wood shavings really dominate the palate.
Given a couple of years in bottle, if the oak recedes then this would be interesting to retaste.
